The Widow's Lament

The Widow's Lament

2 mins
343

She sits alone in her empty house,

The widow with a broken heart,

Her husband gone, the love of her life,

Torn from her, forever to depart.

She thinks of him in every moment,

His smile, his laugh, his gentle touch,

The way he held her close at night,

And how he loved her oh so much.

The memories flood in like a river,

And she can't help but cry,

Thinking of all the things they shared,

And how he said goodbye.

The nights are long and the days are bleak,

And the silence is deafening too,

She feels so lost, so sad, so weak,

Not sure what she should do.

The world seems to have moved on,

But for her, time stands still,

And she's left to face the pain alone,

With a heart that's hard to fill.

She tries to keep busy, to carry on,

But the emptiness is hard to ignore,

And though she tries to be strong,

Her grief is an open sore.

People say it will get easier,

But she can't imagine how,

To live without the one she loved,

Is a pain that won't allow.

She wonders if he's watching her,

From a place beyond the stars,

And if he knows how much she hurts,

How much she bears the scars.

She talks to him in her mind,

As if he's still right there,

And sometimes she thinks she hears him,

Whispering back in the air.

The widow knows that life goes on,

But for her, it will never be the same,

For she's lost the one who meant the world,

And all that's left is the pain.
