The Moonlight Song

The Moonlight Song

A shadow flickered,

No one stirred,

It moved on,

Underneath the willows,

Beside the brook,

A young girl once stood.

No snail, no fish,

Went unnoticed,

Each a friend, 'ere none a foe,

Underneath the willows,

Beside the brook,

A young girl once stood.

A song filled her heart,

She shared it,

With her only friends,

A Moonlight Song!!!

Hoping they heard her,

She closed her eyes,

Standing alone in the world.

Underneath the willows,

Beside the brook,

A young

girl once stood.

The wordless song,

Rose to a crescendo,

Each note higher than the last,

Watching the moon,

Play hide and seek with the clouds,

Underneath the willows,

Beside the brook,

A young girl once stood.

The little orphan,

A nameless child,

Sang the song of moonlight,

Till no air reached her lungs.

Gasping for breath,

The delicate, frail girl,

Remembered her mother,

And her mother's memory,

Held her hand,

And underneath the willows,

Beside the brook,

Hand in hand,

They both stood
