The mermaid

The mermaid 

An enchanting mermaid swam into my ken

My life became instantly magical, but then,

Magic isn't real, it's ephemeral you see;

She soon disappeared back into the sea 

Leaving a shattered and devastated me 

Because by then she had become my muse 

But hoping for her to stay was of no earthly use

For magic is an illusion and cannot be true 

I still sometimes glimpse her out in the blue 

I will keep waiting down by shore 

In case she comes visiting just as of yore
