The Light
The Light
I saw it once
Twinkling
Coming and going
Fading in and out
Just beyond the darkness
Just beyond my reach
Just beyond
It weaved in and out of the shadows
Coming and going
One moment here, the next slipping away
It played and danced among the distant trees
Shifting colors and shapes
Bright as the sun
I wanted to tell it, of its own glory
To make it see how bright I had seen it
Then it began to fade
To an undetectable dimness
But some part of it was still there
How I longed to make it shine again
To make it bright like it had once been
To watch it shine again
But I could do nothing
The light came from within
The dimming was a choice
And I could not choose for it.
