The Witness

The Witness

It had been, like being lost in some Arabian desert.

A mirage.

And I chased after it.

Never arriving.

An image imprinted on my mind.

The sandy cheeks.

The dark pooling eyes I threw myself into so willingly.

An abyss of the night became my obsession.

I wandered there daily trying to find the promise.

Following the voice on the wind.

Seeing the storm clouds.

I saw them coming into shore.

Warning. I tried to warn.

But I was not heard.

I roamed on further as the storm's winds surrounded me.

Wailing in my ears. Trying to push me away.

It was the voices of so many people.

Whispering words, threatening words of the impending capture.

I tried to warn, but I was not heard.

The sands blew.

The waters became angry as if to shut me up.

Some dark force in those waters was rising, determined to take out the light.

My light was no longer welcome here.

Still, I screamed in the dark.

But their prey had been carried so far away.

My voice had become drowned out.

The thunder and lightning came now.

I was here alone.

The darkness had overcome and carried its prey away.

I am no longer seen.

I am the witness.

But there was another unseen witness who was there.
