The Attire!!!

The Attire!!!

2 mins
360

She opened her wardrobe and stood eyeing her collection,

Each attire was special, picked after due deliberation,

It was important to create the right impression,

So she chose to dress according to the occasion.

The colours accentuated her complexion,

The cut hid her little imperfections,

The length she chose to suit her comfort,

Picked the one which seemed perfect.

But.. little did she know that she would be judged,

By some, with a mind, thoroughly prejudiced,

Of her, they would make a mental picture,

And in a glance, quickly decipher her character.

When she chose a T-shirt and shorts,

Paired with sunglasses and a matching quartz,

They thought - there she goes, a woman so bold,

She must be characterless, mean and cold.

When she walked with her head held high,

With pencil heels and a skirt just up to her thigh,

They thought - there she goes, a woman clueless,

She must be a home breaker, downright shameless.

When she wore a long glimmering dress,

With a neckline plunging down to her chest,

They thought - there she goes, a woman who dares,

She must be available, for she fears not to bare.

When she wore a business suit and a tie,

Managed her home and office alike,

They thought - there she goes, a woman ambitious,

Chasing her dream? Its downright ridiculous!!

When she wore a five yard drape,

Covering all, but her shapely waist,

They thought - there she goes, a woman docile,

She must be naive, complacent, an imbecile.

When she wore a black flowing robe,

Covering every inch, from her head to her toe,

They thought - there she goes, a conformist,

Quote tradition, and she will blindly follow it.

Was she wrong in chosing her attire?

No!! For each, there was a remark snide,

So she did what she could do best,

She pretended as though they didn't exist.

Wasn't the attire just a garment worn to protect?

But no!! It spoke aloud, in its own dialect,

None really want to look beyond,

And know the real person, the one who adorned.

More often than not, an impression is created,

By the appearance and not by the intellect,

The same woman in different attires,

Grossly misunderstood by judgemental eyes!!
