Ramprasad
Ramprasad
Maharana Pratap also owned an
elephant whose name
was Ramprasad.
His valour and fame was
at par with Chetak.
This elephant had killed thirteen war
elephants of the Mughal army alone
in the battle of Haldighati.
When Akbar imprisoned Ramprasad,
the later did not eat anything or drink,
losing his life on the 18th day!
Ramprasad was with Maharana Pratap,
since his childhood.
He was considered to be the best
among all the Mewari elephants.
The elephant was so intelligent, mighty
and battle-worthy that he alone had
slained 13 elephants of Akbar's army in
battle of haldighati.
Akbar after listening this got awestruck.
He finally made a strategy to capture this
elephant by formation of chakravyuh.
A chakravyuh was then composed of seven
of the mightiest elephants of the Akbar's Army.
These elephants had 14 mahavats with two
mahavats sitting on each of the seven elephants.
Then only it became possible to catch this
mighty elephant RAMPRASAD.
Al-Badayuni has written further in
description of how indian animals were
trained and were so attached with their MASTERS
and their loyalty to their master was at par with humans.
This elephant now was captured and was
later confronted with AKBAR.
AkBAR immediately changed his name
from Ramprasad TO Pirprasad.
BY order of Akbar the mughals
gave him special juicy sugarcanes
and water as food.
The elephant however did not eat till
18 days and was in hunger.
Later it succumbed to death.
Hearing this Akbar had said that " the one's
whose elephant does not bow down in
front of me,how would I be able to slain
Maharana Pratap."
There are temples of both Chetak and
Ramprasad in Mewad and still people
go there to pay their reverence to the
Maharana's favourite horse and elephant.
