Raksha Bandhan : Let's Celebrate

Raksha Bandhan, in legends, may vary

From brother and sister to anybody

But what remains constant and is celebrated forever

Is the bonding and the promise to protect.

A ritual celebrated on Shravan Purnima every year

Is a reason to connect with near and dear ones

And to break free from the monotony of daily gruel

After all, isn’t that what festivals are meant for?

The happy faces and the happy smiles

The fast and the new dresses

The food platter and the gifts exchanged

Pacify the tired and distressed souls.

Today, with families disintegrating

Such celebrations have reduced

Nevertheless, communities are there everywhere

To carry forward this tradition.

With relationships falling apart

And digital space taking over

The show of amicable bond

Has become heart-rending.

And, then enters the unexpected Corona

To teach selfish humans a lesson.

Locked up in the homes far away

They lament over returning to their nests.

Hopefully, this revered bond of protection

Will surpass the beliefs and histories

To pave a new path for the women

Becoming independent and courageous.

No longer will the women need protection

From men near and far

But they can build their own mettle

And become Queens of valor.

Life is short and so are our changing desires.

Let us celebrate every moment

With everyone and in every possible way

To leave behind sparkles with our footprints.
