As Winter Knocks

As Winter Knocks

As winter knocks the warm sun brings,

The purity of the heaven-kissed snow,

On the blank page for our merriment,

Inviting the feet to play and the spirit to laugh.

Some days I wish to snuggle under the blanket,

Wrapping my finger around some hot cocoa,

Yet, the crystalline joy of winter takes my hand,

And shows me its beauty and embryonic joy.

The frozen ground and river glitter with sunny rays,

But the sparks remain under the blanket of icy sheets,

And, I prefer to see deep and moving waters,

And, lush green lands of the summertime.

Trees prepare themselves as ballet dancers,

Poised to show the world their grace,

As the silvery brown leaves display their pride,

And, despite seasonal gusts, they’ll remain still.

There lies before me, a canvas for my dreams,

Bringing the hint of a newborn smile,

Like hearth-fire, lifting every part of what I am,

I can no longer contain this energy surge.

This deep breath of cool, fresh air,

Amidst a choir of colours, and peaceful harmony,

Peeps sweet mischief of spring,

For those who wait and persist.
