Nirbhaya!!

She was a woman, just like any of us,

To go back home, she had boarded a bus,

Little did she know, it would be her last trip,

In there she was beaten and forcefully stripped.

She was bleeding, but wouldn't give up her fight,

That infuriated them further, hurt their perverted pride,

They used a blunt rod to prove their false might,

They didn't stop till they pulled out her intestines.

When they were done, their urge satisfied,

They threw her from the moving bus, thinking she wouldn't survive,

After all, they thought, they had broken her every bone,

But they couldn't touch, her tough-spirited soul.

Her body was weak, her organs torn apart,

She wasn't giving up just like that, No, not so fast,

She had the will to live, she gathered all her strength,

Till she got justice for herself, she wouldn't be content.

When the nation heard her cry, it became an outrage,

People joined her protest and lauded her courage,

Indians were seeking justice for the brave woman,

The courts convicted the accused - all the five men.

Rape was now acknowledged as a heinous, ghastly crime,

Laws were amended to ensure that juveniles are also tried,

The accused used their rights to appeal to the Supreme Court,

The verdict- To be hanged till death - was finally out.

Justice would eventually come, it is just a matter of time,

Rape victims henceforth will neither feel shame nor choose to hide,

She set an example, giving hope in place of lifelong tears,

She lives amongst us as Nirbhaya, the one without fear!!
