Light or Dark
Light or Dark
Like a moth drawn to light,
I promised to stay by your side until death do us part.
The light in question emanated from a bulb that flickered,
Which tricked me into mistaking your obsession for devotion.
Thought I had you wrapped around my finger, but
The truth was, you had me tethered around yours.
And so, you did what you wanted to.
I missed the knife in your hand because I had never been embraced before,
You inflicted scars on my body with the smile I once adored,
I felt sick in the stomach every time that happened. What ensued was
The heartburn which made me taste blood in my mouth.
But you thought that wasn't enough and so,
You kicked me until I bled.
The scars have faded now, and so have my memories,
But I still sometimes taste blood in my mouth,
You're not around anymore but the fear still surrounds me.
The flickering bulb continued to burn my world, and I let it,
Till I had enough. And so,
I did what I had to do, to survive.
From being tethered around you, to being incarcerated,
I survived somehow.
All that is left are the pieces of me you broke,
In the darkness that followed after you were gone,
I pick them up.
