Illiteracy, a curse that shadows the land,

A lack of knowledge, that robs us of our stand,

It's a cloud that hangs, over the heads of many,

A deprivation, that keeps us from achieving any.

It's a chain that binds, and holds us down,

A wall that blocks, and keeps us from the crown,

It's a gap that separates, and divides us apart,

A hindrance that stops us, from making a start.

It's a voice that's silenced, a story untold,

A light that's dimmed, a fire that's cold,

It's a dream that's shattered, a hope that's lost,

A life that's limited, a future that's crossed.

It's a tragedy that plays out, in every land,

A scourge that spreads, like a vicious hand,

It's a wound that bleeds, and never seems to heal,

A challenge that's daunting, an obstacle that's real.

But let us not be discouraged, nor lose heart,

For the power of education, can make a start,

Let us work together, to break the chains of illiteracy,

And set free the minds, that are held in captivity.

Let us teach the young, and empower the old,

Let us enlighten the masses, and break the mold,

Let us open the doors, and light the way,

And make illiteracy, a thing of yesterday.

For education is the key, that unlocks the door,

To a world of knowledge, that we can explore,

Let us seize the opportunity, and make it our own,

And let illiteracy, be forever dethroned.
