If Only I Could

If only I could wipe out all

Suffering and sorrow etched 

In every human life on Earth;

If only I could eradicate 

Enmity and evil from its face;

If only I could destroy all 

Its teeming trials and troubles;

If only I could dry every single 

Tear in every glistening eye -

If only I could...... 

But the Power that propels the 

Working of this vast Universe 

Allows not any other operator 

At the helm of its revolving wheel-

It continues on its cyclic course 

Inexorably and without pause, 

With human beings like puppets 

Dancing to the tune of Destiny.  

But oh! If only I could - change 

It all for the better - I would!
