Fragile Futures

The future is most fragile,

Brittle, delicate.

I can neither live without it

Nor can I live off it.

I aspire to be a playwright,

A poet like Sylvia Plath,

But somebody turns it down, tells me,

"It's a silly way of life."

I aspire to be an actress,

Starring in films and shows,

But somebody turns it down, tells me,

"It's a showy way of life."

I aspire to be a spy,

Work for my country,

But somebody turns it down, tells me,

"It's a risky way of life."

There are a hundred excuses

To not be something,

Just find one reason to

Be what you are made to be.
