Fare Thee Well

Fare Thee Well

The inexorability of growing apart,

Amidst a crescendo of mixed emotions -

It’s just breaking my flaccid heart,

As I formulate deplorable notions

Of a journey to undertake without you.

Our relationship was forged on happenstance,

Bonded by jovial outings and wisecracks; -

Oh, how I remember that gleeful dance!

As we stumbled upon each other’s backs

Snogging & caressing obliviously at the moment.

Outings of vim coupled with the romance -

Oh, the nostalgia of breezing Goan beaches!

And getting engrossed in a musical trance.

Carefree and young, beyond the reaches

Of the subsuming anxiety, in those moments.

The sauntering by the city’s seasonal creek

And the occasional havoc that we’d wreak,

As we’d play with frivolity - hide and seek,

Forgetting about the doldrums of the week -

Entertaining the passersby with our doublespeak.

Moonlit nights and insightful glances

From an outlook of exuberance & wonder

Imposes faith we all have second chances

Of redemption before lives go asunder -

From the implosion of our innate morality.

Call it vicissitudes of unpredictable fates,

Or even a botched-up besotted relationship.

We were not destined to be soulmates.

All the erstwhile desire of a jovial courtship -

Lay shattered on your bleak graveyard.

Tumultuous have been the times since then,

Embellished deities by the vestibule

Often reminds me of better days when

The only empress that my heart did rule

Was captivated by my ridiculous antics.

Some days are too long and hard to endure,

Others of wistful yearning for attaining thee,

Why is rightful gaiety so fleeting, de jure?

As if fortune itself wants to deny us jamboree.

Hard though it might be, I’ve to bid you adieu.
