End Of The Line
End Of The Line
The heat of a sultry summers’ day
And the news wasn’t good,
You were going away.
Vow’s made down by the lover's brook
Are just trickling memories
Of the love that you took.
A heart that once was full of life
Is now just a shell
On the edge of a knife.
A vignette, closing in on a world,
As into the abyss
My mind was hurled.
Dreams and goals, we shared as a bond,
Are creeping away
As a thief, to abscond.
The feelings; the love of life we shared,
The togetherness, the passion
So beyond compare.
All drifting by on the hands of time
And forever out of reach;
No longer mine.
I reach out to you a last trembling hand
But you slip through my fingers,
Like silken, soft sand.
I have bought but a memory as a parting gift,
And pride that at one time,
Your heart, I could lift.
Your image will live for many years to come,
As we finally reach the end
And all is said and done.
