Deafening Silence

Deafening Silence

1 min 292 1 min 292

Did you hear the deafening silence,

While a young girl whimpered for help

Lying broken, beaten and battered,

Tossed at the side of some street?

Did the deafening silence scream in your mind,

While a woman frantically dialled for help

Being trapped in her own car

Surrounded by strange men?

Does the deafening silence wail in your heart,

The cries of all those babies who died too soon,

The babies that were forcefully put in their mothers’ wombs?

Does this deafening silence engulf you,

Like the shroud that covered the body of the girl,

The girl who died of shame, for a crime she didn’t do?

Does the silence ring in your ears,

And echo through your skull

While a lonely girl tries to scrub away filth from her skin

Dirt that is in her mind, pain that has left her numb?

Does this silence protect you,

While girls wish they weren’t pretty,

Wishing they could escape the wanting eyes that follow their bodies?

This deafening silence broke her

Broad daylight burning her skin as he had his way with her.

This deafening silence killed her

As she fought for her life, lying at the edge of a road in her own blood.

This deafening silence haunted her,

As he drove past, grabbing between her legs.

Cries, wails, sobs, screams.

Whispers, whimpers.

Yet,

Deafening silence.
