Come Back to me as a Guest
Come Back to me as a Guest
There was a field in front of our house,
I ran through this trampling the grass,
You cried in pain for reasons not known,
I jumped out of the grass when I saw a snake and a mouse.
You stopped crying altogether
Suddenly found the smothered grass raising their heads in gratitude
The sun rays showered on them in multitude
I clapped my hands with my brother.
I tried to shoot a bird with a sling shot,
You scolded me not to shoot it,
Because that would pain you a little bit,
I threw my sling shot away and it hit an earthen pot.
I scared a sitting cow,
It jumped up know not how,
I caught hold of its tail,
Twirled it so hard away it ran leaving a trail.
I ran after a squirrel,
It jumped on to the tree waiving its long tail.
I tied a cracker on the tail of a dog
I lit it and it fled with cracker bursting into the fog.
A crow was disturbing me with its cracked voice
I scared it with my shotgun as I had no choice.
I found a tall man climbing up a long tree
I also tried but slipped down flat on the ground with glee.
It was raining incessantly,
We jumped and slipped on the slushy ground mercilessly.
Sun was very hot on head
I found shelter under a tree with branches well spread.
I took out a lens to test the strength of sun light clear
The paper I kept under the lens caught instantly fire.
I saw a monkey sitting suddenly in front of me
I threw a banana which it chased like a bee.
A heavy Taal (A yellowish juicy fruit) fell in front of me from tree top
I thanked you for saving my life looking at the temple top.
I went out in spite of hail storm
I picked up shirt-full of mangoes I don't know where it came from.
I got up early morning before anybody
To listen to chirping of birds which brought joy to me.
I swam in the pond till eyes became red
I do not know why you beckon me when I am in bed.
I tried to catch one day a fish
But they escaped my hook every time against my wish;
I changed the bait again,
I caught one suddenly dangling at the end of the thread,
I jumped with joy and tried to bring it ashore,
But you asked me to release it as it was suffering from pain;
I took out the hook carefully
Out it sprang into water suddenly.
When you blew a storm one day putting everybody's life on edge
You through my mother stopped me from going out to save me from your rage.
I was playing 'Danguli' with my friend named Sarathi,
Who hit the Guli (a cylindrical shaped wooden piece with pointed ends) on to a mango tree,
I climbed the tree to find it struck inside a nest,
I dared not put my hand inside and brought it down in a haste.
We peeped and found eggs and Guli inside,
You warned us not to disturb the unbroken eggs lying side by side.
I had to climb the tree again with the nest hung from behind,
Placed the nest and found suddenly the mother flying in from an angle blind.
When I wanted to part with you
As my father sold the house to Mr. Black,
You asked me when I would come back,
I said I would when I would have friends a few.
Nature laughed a little bit
I did not understand anything of it.
At last, I have few friends now
My wife and me spending time somehow,
You called both of us one day,
To tell to plant trees on the way;
My wife planted flower trees along the boundary wall
Flowers bloomed because of the care she had taken overall,
There is a riot of colours Red, Crimson, Yellow Pink and White descending from heaven,
You said 'Thank you' for loving me again.
I said we are in trouble now
You said just see what I can do and how.
Remember my door is always open to you as a Guest
Come again any time after my fury stops for a rest.
But do not forget to take care of the house you are in,
So that I would not have to drive you again out of your inn.
Remember I can live without you peacefully
But you cannot live without air and water comfortably.
