Child Labour:Indian Situations

I travelled myself to different 

parts of India,

Found child labour practice

rampant in India.

Came across child working 

at stone quarry,

In brick kiln, rodside tea shops, 

farm or factory.

Wake up every morning, before 

the light of day.

They are to go to work, and no 

time for to play.

They're treated unfairly and 

are paid low wages.

Paid less than adults, because 

of their ages.

Their health is affected, dying 

quite young.

Bosses so heartless, dying of

 Black Lung.

I have read Child Labour 

Prohibition Act, 

In 1986 parliament enacted 

such Act.

Protection of children below 

14 years of age,

Engagement of such child as 

labour is crime.

Child labour is such a crime, 

what we do about it,

Saving child from misery; protection, 

we commit.

Child labour is concentrated 

in agriculture sector,

17% in services; 12% in mining, 

industrial sector.

The law is only remains in the 

statute book,

Practice continues, criminals 

not to be booked 

Conviction rate of violators is 

major hindrance, 

Poverty, unemployment, illiteracy 

are the cause.

Prosecuted Violators go 

scot-free in the system, 

Only 25% cases reach conviction

 in the system.

There are both global and 

national efforts, 

But prevention of child labour 

is of uphill task.

Children between 5 and 17 

years are in labour,

Almost half of them, work in 

hazardous labour.

Question in my mind is Why, 

Why, Why, why,

you and I can't see tears in 

children's cry.

As those children are not of 

your and mine!

Those children have only for 

a choice: live or die.

Such horrible crime is to be 

stopped right away.
