A Lamenting Soul

A Lamenting Soul

What joy had my soul beseeched?

Through broken dreams its elixir leached.

Life had birds and flowers adorned,

What art had to me they enthroned?

Through the sullen clouds I peep,

Into the world of men; whilst they're asleep.

I speak to each fleck of earthen dust,

Carrying in air my dangling trust.

I bestowed love on every soul,

Nescient of their fates and goals.

A blissful life was all I sought,

Dwelling with my sublime thoughts.

They slayed me; strangled my mortal bod,

'Twas soil; I kissed as my true abode.

And in dust I slept in peace,

Into my tomb of eternal bliss.

Truth was all I learned to word,

Like squeakings of a sinless bird.

Flagitous humans ruling dust,

Brimming in lousy floods of lust.

My poor eyes could only see,

They ravished a damsel beneath the tree.

I yelled in anger; she groaned in pain,

They weren't humans but insanes.

Rejoicing vanity of peccant deeds,

They beheld me behind the debile weeds.

They caught me with their red stained hands,

And stabbed me deep o'er mortal lands.

I peep below into the world of crude bedlam,

Just a wandering soul; today I am.

I cry in agony; groan in thirst,

I was betrayed by my beloved crust.
