A Child's Dream
A Child's Dream
I saw a child playing by the sea,
Collecting pebbles, laughing with glee.
Clapping her hands welcoming the waves,
Running back and forth-
Screaming and free.....
Collecting the water in her hands
She waved at the clouds and
Made designs in the sand
Back and forth she counted her steps
Marked the distance with her footsteps.
The immeasurable sea, her measured steps.
The vast expanse measured with fingertips…
To her the horizon was the end of the sea.
The clouds followed her as she danced
The rainbow lit at her glance.
She wanted her friends -the sea and the sky
To follow her home and live with her there.
The sky was there when she reached home
The sea followed her a little and went back to its own
She felt sad and cried for the sea.
In the evening there was thunder, lightning and rain
She clapped her hands, laughed and said
The sky and the sea are playing hide and seek
The sky I can almost see but the sea I have to find …..
Though I hear the child was lost
I couldn’t rescue it or me.
Years later I can still see
The sea and the sky beckoning me.
I hear the haunting melody of the sea and sky
And the call of the child waiting to be rescued by me….
