Songs Of Our Hearts

There are millions if not billions of songs out in the world today. However, a song that binds itself to you is pretty rare to come by. These songs have become a part of our life advertently or inadvertently and we don’t realize it, or our busy lives do not let us. Once a song successfully latches itself to your soul, you are a slave to it; the peak of your emotions with the song’s and your heart writhe with every note, pitch, and tone the song makes. Sometimes you want to punch something and the very next moment you want to cry out, silently.

In fact, we have memories, good, nostalgic and bad associated with a song. A tune has the power to take you back tens of years to one particular fleeting moment or a period of time that had till now been lost in the mysterious folds of time. Music is therefore essentially a time machine that travels back in time. You may hate a song for the rough patch of time you associate it to, or maybe to somebody who broke your heart. So much so, you cannot bear to hear it and have to run away from whoever’s playing it or wherever it is being played. You feel hollow where your heart is supposed to be, a strange emptiness.

It is strange and amazing how long periods of time can be compressed into a handful of good songs. Nostalgia, reminiscence, and remembrance. Overall, nostalgia is strange; it is a mixture of good times wrapped in a thick covering of sadness. Outings with friends, small talks, the fights, the pain of departure, there was a song for everything. A song is a gift that makes us feel, helps us to be human all over again. Because any person is a mixture of good and bad memories, the bad outweighing the good in most of us. But songs and music help us ease the difference between the two and make it bearable.
