At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps India will awake to life and freedom – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

India is all set to celebrate its 76th Independence Day on 15th August this year. The government has launched “Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav” to commemorate 75 years of independence and honor the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

India got Independence from British rule. India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of Red Fort in Delhi on August 15, 1947. Since then, every year the prime minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort and sent out wishes to all Indians to mark the occasion. The national anthem Jana Gana Mana is sung, it conveys the spirit of Unity in Diversity.

We should not forget the sacrifices of all the freedom fighters to make India free from colonial rule.

The tricolor of tiranga Indian flag has three stripes of 3 colors. The saffron color represents courage and sacrifices. White color represents truth, peace and purity. The green color represents prosperity, while Ashoka Chakra represents law of Dharma.

Ask not what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country. A salute to the soldiers who risk their lives for our country, salute to the citizens who make our country proud.

Bharat Mata Ki Jai ! Jai Hind
