Paul

Haley had been dating Paul for almost a year now but no sooner did she realize that Love meant nothing to him. She had no idea why he was dating her but she justified her side by claiming to be in love with him. He never paid her much attention, spoke very little on the phone, met her for a very small amount of time, showed very little of his affections and then at last one day, they broke up. Hayley was heartbroken and cried herself to sleep almost every night.

She thought to herself, ‘Maybe someone else will make Love mean something to him and then he'll fight for it and treasure it like he should have.' A Few weeks later however, Paul's friend, Ben called her and the two of them met at a cafe. This was when Ben told her how difficult Paul's parents have been for him and how Paul being the obedient, prodigious son, would always obey them with acquiesce. He explained the breakup as well as the treatment offered by Paul to her had been but the effect of his obligations and restrictions from his parents.

After this conversation with Ben, no sooner did Hayley realize that his love for his parents meant the world to him. And that he knew much more about love than she believed him to. He loves them and sacrifices his wants and desires for them, for the sake of conformity to the societal rules and norms he's obliged towards because of his parents. And no body can change him but himself.
