One For The Road
One For The Road
In the dimly lit bar
There's a woman,
Her back to the jukebox
Swaying
To the sounds
Of the Thompson Twins
"Hold me now,"
She sings along
With great passion
As pool cues strike
Billiard balls
And beer gushes
Into chilled glasses
As the song ends
She walks back
To her seat alone.
In the dimly lit bar
A man looks deep
Into his drink
For answers,
The barkeep asks
If he's ready for another
He listens, briefly
To the song that's playing
He can't remember
The last time
Somebody held him
It was a long time ago
Even longer
Since she left him
"filler up," he says
As the young woman
Heads for the door.
