You're My Destiny

She has been raised as a powerless, dumb, and deaf member of her family. Absolute obedience is expected from her since her birth. Each and every step of her life is well - decided in advance by her parents. She is Mugadha, a daughter of a highly reputed, affluent zamindar family where the children are considered personal property. Any violation of rules leads to harsh punishment.

She goes to school; learns classical dance, and painting from a teacher at home. Even in school, she doesn’t dare to speak up. Her academic excellence brings accolades and a guarantee that the continuation of her study will not be disrupted. Her life is chained to a tight routine and she finds no escape from it. She is left with no choice.

The dictatorship of the parents has turned her into a living puppet. She thus values freedom the most. History is her favourite subject and she can relate with the freedom fighters. She has no friends, no pets, and no family members with whom she can spend time without any stress. Time flies. She acquires an MBA degree. Her parents are proud of her because she has lived a life of their desire.

A year later, she gets married to a highly educated, foreign returned business tycoon Sumer. Her approval and her dreams for a life partner lose their significance because her marriage with Sumer is settled at her birth. She hasn’t met him before the engagement. At the ring ceremony, she looks at him and feels happy that her parents have chosen a charming prince for her.

She is sure she won’t be granted any freedom post marriage. When as a daughter she has been denied the right to express her desires, then as a wife and a daughter-in-law it is weird to expect any kind of radical change in the in-laws' house. She is, therefore, mentally prepared to be a puppet at the hands of a new set of people.

On her nuptial night, Sumer gifts her a leader file folder. She opens it and is surprised to see documents of a manufacturing unit in her name. She is the sole decision-maker for running the business. She is speechless.

How can I accept such a big responsibility? I am not raised as an independent person. My life’s decisions are taken by my parents,” She utters in a low voice.

Holding her hands Sumer says in a gentle loving voice, “I was six and you were just born when our marriage was fixed. In our society, girls are trained to be perfect homemakers and for this, their education is not given priority. I have always wished for a well-educated life partner who will be my strength. To respect my wish, you’re allowed for higher education.

Now, I want to show the world that a married woman is not necessarily required to live a homemaker’s life. At the initial stage, you will face difficulties and therefore, I shall guide you. But once you gain enough knowledge of running a business, I shall concentrate on other projects.“

Sumer looks into her eyes and declares, “You are my Destiny. Since my boyhood, I have been working hard on my Destiny to make it unique.”

Both smile. She pays gratitude to God. Her new journey begins with a person who has been shaping her life since her birth.
