What Is The Language Of Humanity?
What Is The Language Of Humanity?
I traveled to Hyderabad a few years ago to take classes for job hunting. I didn't know the roads or the neighborhoods in the city because I had just moved there. I was not conversant in the regional tongue. One day, I received a call to attend a job interview. It was a long drive from my hostel to the off-campus location. Nevertheless, since I needed the work, I made the decision to use Google Maps to get there. A few people at my hostel provided me with bus schedules to go to the event. My interview was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., so I departed from the hostel at around 6 or 6:30 a.m. After taking the bus, I discovered that it doesn't go straight to the venue. It was already 10 a.m. when I exited the bus. I felt uneasy. I sought directions to the location from a few people. Many locals did not speak Hindi or English because the location was on the outskirts of the city, so I was unable to ask them in their native tongue. I decided to skip the interview and head back to the hostel because I was so irritated. One auto rickshaw driver finally recognized my worry.
"OK, I'll drop you off at the venue," he said.
Me: Let it be now. I've already missed the interview because it's late.
"Madam, at least go there and check," he added. Perhaps you didn't miss it. I'll drop you off in 15 minutes. I will return you to the bus stop if it has already ended.
It was almost eleven o'clock when I arrived at the location. Due to my failure to attend the interview, I was about to cry. However, after investigating, I saw that there was a huge line and that the process had not yet begun because it was a drive. The fact that I still had a chance to land the job was such a relief. I cleared the initial round. I was informed that I had been chosen for a further round and it can happen anytime. I was so exhausted by the time my chance arrived. I was not even in the condition to attend the interview. The interviewer invited me to unwind and offered me some water and food. I apologized for my state, and we got down to business with the interview. I finished the entire process around 4 o'clock. I had no idea what to do because I was so exhausted and hungry. I was looking for a bus or auto stop. I hadn't eaten anything since the morning. Along the way, I spotted a temple. I took the deity's darshan. I was informed by the priest that there was a Maha prasad taking place in the temple and that I should not leave without receiving the prasad. As soon as I heard this, I was ecstatic. At the temple, I ate until I was stuffed, and then I went back to the hostel.
After a week, I learned that I had been hired for the position. My eyes started to tear up. I had no idea to whom to express my gratitude. The autorickshaw driver who insisted I go to the interview even though I was running late, the interviewer who was patient with me, or the priest who gave me food when I was starving. Despite not knowing me personally, they all chose to help me.
One day, I noticed an elderly woman sitting near the railway station. She was mute and was asking her grandson to eat the chapati she was holding. She was unable to persuade him using sign language. So, she approached him, patted him on the back, and fed him with her hand. A dog approached her. She took the piece of chapati and gave it to him.
