We The Slaves of Freedom

We The Slaves of Freedom

Sitting in a dingy dhaba, as usual, I was puffing out clouds of thick grey smoke, resembling the smoke from the netherworld – the abaddon; a way to grind the axe on your own feet. People call it a slow suicidal process, and aren’t they true? It seems as if we are sleeping, turning a deaf ear to these things. You know why?? No doubt it will bring a drastic change in our personality but – what about pleasure? The whole cosmos is treading its footsteps on the road to hedonism. Pleasure – whether abstract or concrete, pleasure – at all costs. Instead of strengthening the nation, we are attenuating it, leading it towards destruction.

If I’ll start stashing up the list of do’s and don’ts, pages will fall short. Talk about revolution, sobriety, propriety or amenity – who’s going to follow them? No one! Don’t talk about exceptions; they are everywhere, I know. But, is it possible for this world, this universe, to bear the froward bigotry of the masses? Is it possible for the exceptions, as people talk of them, to edify, to emancipate? No, it isn’t. Gone are the days when Hitlers were born.

The Divine power created the human race, tagging them as the “Ashraful makhluqat” – the supreme living being on earth. If we are supreme, then, let me ask, why have we been acting like slaves? Slaves – of our desires, our pleasures, and our wishes. If you go out looking for vulpines, you’ll find them scarce, but will surely get a number of bovines. You’ll find a dastard here and a sluggard there, but none to reach the consummation of existence.

Initially, I too talked of liberating society from the shackles of malefic elements and anarchy, like others did. But I’ve put it on the back burner now, because I’ve made no progress with this regard. Perhaps because I need someone to prick me, to push me and thrust me forward, someone to say, “Yes, you can do it, carry on, Bravado! I’m with you, you are not alone”. But where is that someone? I keep on searching the non-existent one.

What I want to convey here is that we need to coalesce, it’s the need of the hour. The way the 21st century youth is acting seems to me a faux pas. They are headed towards self-destruction. Have you ever thought why we are labeled as bete noire? The answer is simple, which you already know – amour propre, detachment from society, nonchalance towards social life. I know it’s a parti pris, but who except us is responsible for bringing this shame on our generation. We provided the loopholes and so we are looked down upon.

We call ourselves free, liberal, broad minded and what not. No doubt we are free, but do you know what kind of freedom we are enjoying? We are – Free Slaves, tightly gripped by our promiscuous cerebrum, and the result – stagnation, because we don’t have the courage to lose sight of the shore, so how come we are going to discover new oceans!

We are the future, the avant-garde, and the burden of the progress of society, though heavy and tough, lies on our shoulders. Our society is in dire need of recrudescence. It needs manumission. I want to see everyone climb up the pedestals of success; I want you to achieve the acme. If society needs you to work, slap them with supererogation. Rise from the depths; show the world how adept you are.

Its time to go hand in hand. I cannot bear to be an outcast, I cannot afford myself being tagged as a pariah, and I feel the same for you. So come forward and join the army – the Avant-Garde. Stand up; join us – Modern Crusaders Alive! Banzai!
