War: The History of an Empire

As we all know, the Kurusethra war occurred due to the fight between the Pandavas and the Gauravas. The war has led to a huge loss for the Hastinapuram Dynasty. The same story has occurred in the Kannur dynasty of Kerala. However, by mutual understanding the kings resolve the issues in this dynasty. Let us see into it.

Here, we have two characters: Arjuna Mahendra and Rajendra Billa. Arjuna is the cousin brother of Rajendra Billa and they often enters into fight from childhood due to their uncle Ranadev Billa who has a grudge against the Kannur dynasty because of a humiliation that he faced from Rajendra's father Suryanarayana Billa.

But, Ranadev's motive is to brainwash his son-in-law Rajendra and destroy this whole dynasty. Now, Arjuna Mahendran and Rajendra Billa has grown up and Arjuna is raised by his mother Devi Rani who is now the part in Kannur Dynasty after her husband Mahendra Raghav was killed in a war. However, Rajendra is still a crook due to his uncle.

One day, Rajendra Billa and his uncle plans cunningly and sets a trap for Arjuna Mahendra by sending one of their friend to disown him from the kingdom for 10 years. They succeeds in their plan and Arjuna is asked to go to the forest for 10 years by Suryanarayana and Baladev Ram.

He accepts it kindly and is guided by his maternal uncle Raja Nandha, who is very close to Arjuna Mahendra from childhood. They goes to Agasthiyar Dynasty, their nearby kingdom and joins them as a war soldiers after trained for 3 years. They are in a hide-out for 8 years in this kingdom.

Mithrasena, the princess of the kingdom becomes surprised to see the skills of Arjuna Mahendra in shooting bows. She falls in love with him, not for his skills but, due to the love and gentleness that he shows towards the people.

Mithra's brother Chola Mahalinga deva learns her desire to marry Arjuna and sets a competition between him and his cousin Bhadvel Raja which Arjuna wins and he happily gives his hand to Indrasena.

However, Arjuna refuses his proposal but, instead requests Mithra's brother to wait for two years and further, reveals his identity to Mithra with his maternal uncle's help. Hearing it, they feels proud and accepts his request happily.

There are some comical incidents in the Kingdom. A citizen named Kumara tries to get skilled in martial arts. But, he was frequently mocked by Raja Nandha for his inefficiency. He also breaks his hand while trying to break a Horse statue. Later, he falls into Raja Nandha after knowing their identity and flees away from them.

Now, two years gets completed and Arjuna Mahendra takes Mithrasena and her brother in a ship with his maternal uncle accompanying him. They celebrates their end of the period in hide-out by having drinks. While they are all drunk, Arjuna and Mithrasena eats a mushroom-mixed egg due to hungry and becomes intoxicated.

This leads Arjuna to make love to Mithrasena and he feels bad thinking for his mistake. However, she consoles him and also requests him to forget about it.

Her brother also spares Arjuna after some initial fights since he realized that both have committed the common mistakes only due to Raja Nandha. Later, they reach Kannur dynasty where grand celebrations are made for Arjuna.

There, Arjuna is declared as the next king of Kannur while his maternal uncle is the prime minister for the kingdom which shocks Ranadev, Rajendra Billa, Arjuna and Mithrasena. Later, Ranadev and Rajendra are explained by Suryanarayana about the plan to send Arjuna from the dynasty.

They knows the intentions of Ranadev and Rajendra with their another spy but, was silent regarding their evil plans as they was busy in their schedule to crown Arjuna . However, they had used this as an opportunity to test Arjuna's efficiency.

Arjuna Mahendra takes charge as the new king of Kannur dynasty after marrying Mithrasena who is now pregnant with his child while Rajendra and Ranadev Billa are expelled from the dynasty.

Arjuna along with his people's, Mithrasena and his child was happy for 13 years. Now, again Ranadev Billa and Rajendra enters the dynasty of Kannur and declares a war with Arjuna Mahendra.

They are now a successful rulers in the dynasty of Idukki and has captured so many places through war. This war is named by Arjuna as Battle of Kalapattinam since it takes place across the banks of Kalapattinam river. The war takes place for 10 days and a number of soldiers from Kannur and Idukki dies with Ranadev Billa.

An angered Rajendra then, kills Arjuna's maternal uncle Raja Nandha and Mithrasena to avenge his uncle's death who had also accompanied Arjuna in the war (Womens are also allowed to participate in the war according to their kingdom's rules). Angered, Arjuna almost goes to kill Rajendra when he was about to kill him, he remembers the words of his mother who had teached him about non-violence and love when he was a child and spares his life.

He instead peacefully requests Rajendra to be a good ruler and explains him about the importance of family. Rajendra's son Vijayendra Billa also realizes the words of Arjuna Mahendra and he joins with him.



Rajendra reconciles with Arjuna after realizing his mistakes but, tells him that he will remain as the ruler of Idukki meaning to say that he will be a good ruler for his people.

Rajendra's son assures Arjuna and his son Shankara Mahendra (also a skilled warrior like Arjuna) that their kingdom will assure full support to Kannur whenever they are in need.

Later, Arjuna sees the reflection of his mother smiling at him for his non-violent bravery and he goes with Shankara to continue his duty as a ruler in the dynasty.
