vennela [in english]
Vennela finished her studies, got a job, and became completely settled. She was taking good care of her parents and providing them with all necessities while living in Hyderabad.
One day, after returning tired from office to her room, she received a call. Seeing it was her father calling, she put everything aside and answered. But on the other side, it was her mother Satyavathi saying:
“Vennela, come home quickly. We have found a good marriage proposal for you.”
Hearing this, Vennela felt anger, sadness, and tears at the same time. She couldn’t believe what her mother was saying. After thinking for 10 seconds, she finally said, “Okay, I’ll come.”
When Vennela reached home, her parents Satyavathi and Chandra were overjoyed and hugged her tightly saying, “Our daughter has finally come home.”
The next day, the groom’s family came for the pelli chupulu (traditional matchmaking). They asked to call the girl. Vennela wore a silk saree and looked like a beautiful doll. Seeing her, Chandra proudly said, “This is my daughter, my treasure,” and showed her to the groom’s parents.
But Vennela was shocked because the groom himself was not present. When she asked, Satyavathi said, “It would’ve been better if they brought the groom too, right?” But the groom’s mother replied, “He couldn’t come, you know that. Don’t worry.”
The groom’s family said they liked the girl very much.
Later at night, Vennela asked angrily, “What kind of ‘pelli chupulu’ is this without even showing me the groom’s photo?” Her grandmother said, “If you see him, you won’t refuse. He is very handsome.”
Feeling restless, Vennela went to the terrace and began wandering, remembering her past. Just then, Satyavathi came up and handed her the phone, saying, “Here, talk to the groom.”
Vennela answered: “Hello…”
The boy said, “Hello Vennela, how are you? Sorry I couldn’t come. I know you were excited, but I was too busy.” It was Ritwik.
Hearing that voice, Vennela was shocked. She thought, “I’ve heard this voice before…” and screamed, “Ritwik! Is that you?”
Ritwik replied, “Yes. I knew you would be shocked, that’s why I didn’t tell you earlier. Even your aunty asked me to reveal it now. Anyway, how are you? How’s my surprise?”
Vennela responded, “You gave me a shock, Ritwik. But now let me give you one. Even before this call, I already told my father that I am rejecting you.” She smiled cunningly.
Ritwik got serious: “Why are you still holding onto the past? Yes, I made mistakes, I hurt you, I didn’t value you when you were with me. I’m sorry. But now I came back for you. Will you hurt me the same way?”
Vennela stopped him and said, “Wait Ritwik, let me tell you a story. Listen carefully…”
The Diamond Story
There was once a CEO of a huge company. One day, when he was rushing to attend an urgent meeting that could cost the company thousands of crores if missed, his car broke down. He had two pouches in his pocket — one with 10 pink diamonds and another with 10 white diamonds.
As he waited helplessly, a cab driver came by. The CEO got into his car. Seeing the CEO’s rich attire, the driver assumed he was a big man. While driving, the driver received a call: his mother needed immediate surgery costing one lakh rupees.
The CEO overheard this, thought for a while, and when they reached the destination, he gave the driver a pouch (with pink diamonds), his visiting card, and 2000 rupees. He told him, “Call me tonight.” Then he rushed off.
The driver thought the pouch only had colored stones and threw it under a tree. Later at night, out of curiosity, he checked and realized they were real diamonds. Shocked, he called the CEO.
The CEO laughed and said, “Those were real diamonds, worth at least 10 lakhs. Thanks to you, I made it to my meeting.”
The driver, in tears, confessed, “But sir, I threw them away!” He ran back but couldn’t find them in the dark. He called again sadly. The CEO consoled him, “It’s okay, come to my office tomorrow. I’ll give you another cover, but now their value will only be in lakhs, not crores.”
The next day, the driver collected the pouch from the CEO. But he left feeling miserable, realizing his foolishness — he couldn’t even recognize the difference between stones and diamonds.
Back to Ritwik & Vennela
Vennela then explained:
“Did you understand the meaning of this story, Ritwik?
Look closely — there were three characters: God, the CEO, and the driver.
The pink diamonds were me, your love.
The CEO is like destiny, who brought us together.
The driver is like you.
When God first gave me to you, you didn’t value me — just like the driver throwing away diamonds. My parents loved you and wanted our marriage, but you left me then. Now, like the driver searching for lost diamonds, you came back. But remember, once something is lost, it never comes back the same way.
In this story, the diamonds are love. In our story, that love is gone.
Goodbye, Ritwik. I reject you.”
She cut the call.
Shubham (The End):
“If you feel like reading another story, keep reading.
Thank you for your love.”
