Ulysses is a Greek mythological hero. Ulysses was a well-known character among English Literature readers. He was addressed as Odyssey. Homer was the writer of two major works Illiad and the Odyssey.

Ulysses won the trojan war. He loved adventure. He changed the route. It took nearly 20 years to reach home. His adventures are mind-blowing.

Many English poets and novelists were awarded lots of works to the world of the adventures of Ulysses.

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote the poem The Lotos Eaters and Ulysses.

The Lotos Eaters shows the sailors of Ulysses eating the intoxicating plant. They began to forget their families and sorrows. They lamented. Tennyson puts it:

"They sat them down upon the yellow sand,

Between the sun and moon upon the shore;

And sweet it was to dream of Fatherland,

Of child, and wife, and slave; but evermore

Most weary seem'd the sea, weary the oar,

Weary the wandering fields of barren foam.

Then someone said, "We will return no more";

And all at once, they sang, "Our island home

Is far beyond the wave; we will no longer roam."

Tennyson's Ulysses is probably considered to be the sequel to the first.

In this poem, Ulysses has returned to his hometown.

He yearned for adventure. Tennyson taught the world the value of human life. He penned down:

"We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

Ulysses the novel by James Joyce is still read by many readers.
