To the Beach

To the Beach

"Wake up!" my little sister, Joti woke me up early in the morning.

Groaning, I slowly woke up, eyes adjusting to the morning light. Finding my phone, it was 7 am. I whined, "Joti, It's early morning. Why are you even up?"

"But, mom and dad already woke up and is ready to go to the beach," Joti said "You are the only one left, you lazy bum."

Then I remember that we are not in India, but in Thailand, Bangkok for our summer vacation. Getting up, I went straight to the bathroom and got ready for the day. Wearing a blue summer dress, I went out holding Joti's tiny hand.

"Maya, we were waiting for you for hours. I went to wake you up, but you lazy fellow kept on sleeping." Her mother nagged her while getting in the car.

"Dear, calm down," turning around to her, he continued," Maya, you're finally here. Joti was starting to get impatient."

"Anyway, Dad, where are we going today?" I asked curiously while scrolling my Facebook feed.

Instead of him answering me, Joti eagerly said, "Maya, we are going to the beach!"

Eyes sparkling, she waved her hands high up the air and said, "I am going to swim, collect beautiful seashells and ..."

Amused, I watched her rambling on. I remember it is Joti's first time visiting the beach. Even though we have many beaches in India, Joti never got any chance to visit because mom and dad were very busy with their jobs and I was studying.

Joti's voice jolted me from my memory, "Dad, to the beach!"
