The Treasure Hunt

Chapter 1

Claire and James were siblings in the Vesper family. They lived in a usual house. They excelled at school and always bought good marks, pleasing their parents and teachers. Claire was 14 and James was 11, a fact he always complained about. Their morning routine was very monotonous and boring.

Every month a strange new person would come to their house, disappear into the attic in their parents room, and come back scared and rejected. But their parents didn’t give up, they just got another person to go into the attic, to come back with the same result. The kids wondered what these hired people did, but their parents wouldn’t speak of it.

One day, they had come back from school and were going to their room when they heard their parents speaking in hushed voices. They peeped in through the door and listened intently. “We can’t find it” said their mom. Their father replied “But we have to, we need to! I’m sure someone will be able to find it.” Suddenly James made a noise. Their parents stopped talking and Claire glared at James, “Sorry” he murmured uncomfortably.

 Their parents came out and their mom said “Well? Explain yourselves” Claire told their parents how they wanted to know why their parents hired mysterious people to go into the attic, and what did they find there that the people came back scared.

Their parents were hesitant but they told the children about this matter.

“Our family was once the richest in the land” their father began and the children prompted him on. “We had a lot of gold and jewels, we helped other people with financial problems and lived like royalty in a big mansion. But, our ancestors didn’t want the wealth falling into the wrong hands. Their relatives were greedy and spent the wealth on wrong things. So they hid the treasure somewhere and the next generation started trying to find this treasure, but in vain. That, was when the treasure hunt began….”
