Running through the lanes into darkness, hiding in dark alleys to sleeping on trees to eating leftovers... This was something Sam had gotten used to. Life is not always a dreamland and Sam knew it. Because now his life held nothing but horrors that would make one sick to the stomach. But now he was stuck in this town of horror.

He was stuck between life and death.

Sam knew it was just a matter of time before they would find and kill him. He was on a run from last five days and was lucky enough to get away from their grasps. But not everyday is lucky is it?

Five days, for five days he was in darkness, this town was in darkness. It was as if the sun had hidden himself somewhere. He remembered something about his mom telling him about the curse over the town. But he didn't remember what. He tried racking his brains, but it was difficult especially when you are in life death situation isn't it ?

Finally running for god knows how long Sam stood besides the pole, panting and holding it for support. He could bear it no longer. The constant feeling of fear of being hunted down was taking him over. He thought of his family and instantly a pang of guilt went through his heart. It felt as if someone had clutched his heart and twisted it.

He knew it was his fault. He was about to slide down besides the pole when suddenly there was a spine chilling shout and he could here footsteps behind him. A girl was running towards him with her arms raised forward shouting for help and then in a split of second she was gone.

Sam stood there petrified not knowing what to do. He stood there staring in the darkness where the girl disappeared. It was a minute or so when Sam was jolted back into sense by a loud wailing voice. The sound seemed to coming from behind him.

Sam was about to turn when he remembered his mom's last words, "No matter what happens, don't turn back."

Terror sucked every breath in his mouth. Looking around wildly he again broke into a run. From the bridge into the forest, it had been almost half an hour since when he was running when he saw a small cottage hidden behind the dense trees. He bolted towards it and closed the door behind him, panting and holding his stomach. He was tired, hungry but more than he was frightened.

He was running constantly, not because of fear of death but because he wanted to live. Life had given him enough terror filled moments. Seeing people die had become somewhat common for him. But never in his dreams had he thought that he might have to face these horrors. Losing his mom, dad and his siblings was horrifying enough. And now he saw a girl getting swiped of her feet right in front of his eyes and he could do nothing. He should have gone forward to help her but instead he ran like a coward.

Sam sat down in the corner of the room and was shivering out of fear. The images of his parents scarifying themselves for him flashed before his eyes. His brother asking his sister and him to run saying that he will hold it off.

They ran! He being the usual coward of all three he ran. But then the time came when they were again faced by the monster... he should have stood for his sister, protected her. But again being the selfish one he allowed himself to be pushed away by his sister. He can never forget that moment as he saw his sister die right in front of him.

Thousand of thoughts and memories shuffled through his mind. He felt pain, guilt, anguish. He felt ashamed of himself for abandoning his family. But he was never the bravest one among them. He was always the one who ran from problems and hid behind his siblings. As it is said whenever you feel close to death thousand of memories swirl before your eyes and you recollect only the best bits, memories which are more poignant. He sat there quietly in darkness recollecting the memories.

He could hear rustling of leaves and the noise of river flowing nearby. Suddenly a thought occurred to him, what if he made to the river, he could at least get out of here. But go where? Everything else was almost destroyed.

His train of thoughts were broken by loud knock on the door.

Thud! Thud!

Sam sat straight upright looking horrified at the door. His heartbeat growing faster every second, sweat trickling down his face. He picked up the stick lying nearby. The banging grew louder and Sam curled his fingers tightly around the stick. The banging was growing louder as someone was continuously knocking and then suddenly the knocking stopped. There was a scary silence for a second and then the door busted open.

Sam closed his eyes and tightened his grip on the stick. For a minute nothing happened. Then out of a sudden someone caught hold of his hand and pulled him up. Sam opened his eyes expecting to see death standing in front of him. But instead his eyes widened in shock, a tingling sensation of fear went down his spine and he knew that he was gone for good.

A shabby man stood at the entrance. He had this long black coat around him. Sam looked at his face and almost recoiled. It was pale and white, and was so sunken that the man looked like a walking skeleton. His eyes were black, lifeless, they looked like empty socket.

The man looked at him and gave a creepy grin which again sent shiver down Sam's spine. Sam's legs were begging him to flee, but for unknown reason he stood his ground. He knew something was wrong and it was confirmed when the man spoke.

"How are you alive?" he said in a raspy voice.

This was definitely not what Sam expected, he looked at the man closely before replying, "I don't know."

The man's already creepy smile turned even more sinister, "Call me in!" he ordered.

Now that was weird, why did he wanted to be called in, when he can directly step in.

God knows where he got this courage from when he retorted back asking, "Why do you need me to call you in?"

The man's eyes darkened even more, if there was shade even more darker than black, then his eyes would be that, "Stupid boy I said call me in"

Sam took two steps back in fear, but didn't dare call him in. Though he was a coward among his family, he was definitely the smartest one. His eyes squinted around the room before lying on the stick which he held few minutes ago. His eyes widened in horror. How could he be so stupid. He looked around the house and saw Bible and many holy books sprawled across the floor and the stick which held was a holy cross and this was a house of a priest. It was cleansed with holy water and that's the reason why the man was asking him to call him in. He was so much drowned in his pain and guilt that he never noticed that he was holding one main asset which can save him.

He sighed a breath of relief before turning to the man when a sudden realization struck him. Which he had ignored while cursing himself for stupidity.

Only human's can enter this cottage! Then who was the man ?

He looked horror struck at the man who was now smiling widely, showing all his teeth and his eyes were narrowed down together. The smile was sinister. The sight of him gave creeps to Sam. Terror washed over Sam, raising fine hairs on back of his neck. He backed off as the man continued to give his wide creepy smile. He knew that the only barrier between him and the man was the entrance.

Again the man said, "You know you cannot escape me. This town is cursed! "

Cursed ? Sam squinted his eyebrows together. He had heard this somewhere about the town being cursed. He turned around and immediately ran towards the book which were sprawled on the floor. The man behind him was booming him to come back but ignoring it Sam continued to go through the books.

When he stopped. His muscles tensed. What he was feeling now was beyond words to explain.

" The day will come, when the sun won't rise anymore

Darkness will spread everywhere and the cold will be irresistible

Hope will be gone, as everyone will die

Pray because no one will survive

There's one person who can bring back the lost hope

He is the one who has himself lost all the hope

But he can bring back the warmth and life of nature

Because he will be the last person alive in this entire town."

Sam's hand shivered, as he felt the numbness took over him. He looked at the man in the doorway, whose creepy smile had faded and it was replaced him anger. Sam knew he was the one who was meant to complete the prophecy. The death of his family flashed before him, his clutched his knuckles and was about to reach out to the cross when the air suddenly started to become cold. Darkness engulfed him and he struggled to get out. He looked towards the door and saw the man. His face again had the creepy grin on it. Only the change was that his face looked even more malicious.

He was about to get up when suddenly dark smoke started to form around the room. The room became colder. Sam squinted his eyes trying to look through the smoke. He looked at the man and saw him standing in smoke. He was looking even more maliciously at him. His hands were spread wide and eyes were narrowed. Suddenly the house started shaking. Sam looked around to see that the house was on the point of being uprooted.

The man grinned at him and said, "You won't come out, I cannot come in. So why not remove this barrier." The moment he said this, the house started shaking even more badly. The wind was flowing wildly as if warning Sam of his death. Sam knew he had to get out of this. He looked around the house and immediately spotted the holy cross lying across the room.

He barged towards it but was instantly stopped by the black smoke which was starting to get thicker. He could no longer see properly. It was as if the smoke was suffocating him. He raised his hands to move ahead and was shocked. Black smoke was circling his hands as if trying to chain him down. The smoke moved around his neck almost suffocating him. Sam fell to his knees while trying to ignore the black spots dancing in front of his eyes. He could hear the monster laughing behind him.

Behind his laughter, thousands of wail and cries of terror was occupied. Hundreds of people who begged for their life, the cries of pain flooded the entire house. Sam was not able to focus. He wanted to give up, he wanted to die, at least he can meet his family !

Family ! He thought.

Instantly the flashback of his mom dad's painful cries, his brother and sister dying in front of his eyes, the little girl getting whipped right in front of him flashed before his eyes. He felt a surge of anger go through him. The guilt, the pain immediately summed up into anger. He had to avenge his family, every innocent person dying because of this master.

With great strength Sam stood up and inched towards the cross.

Taking the cross in his hands he looked at the monster who was having that wide smile on his face.

"You think you won!" Sam shouted, while walking towards him. The house had blown up and there was nothing between them.

"You think you have completed the curse." Sam continued, " You thought you had defeated me. You haven't. The pain, the guilt which has filled me is even more greater than this stupid curse." Sam stopped in front of the man and looked directly in the man's eyes, "Well then let's put an end to this curse." Saying this Sam swiftly held the cross over the man's head.

That exact moment, there was loud voice of thunder and a lightning directly struck on the nearby tree and it burst into fire. The monster was now shouting in anguish as his entire body started to erupt in fire. Wind started blowing even more wildly, as fire started making circle around them. Sam watched in horror as the monster's body started cracking and lava started to flow through it. He crumpled right in front of Sam and was reduced to ashes. Just that very moment everything stopped. There was no wind, no thunder, the fire around them disappeared.

Sam looked around frightened not knowing what to do when his attention was captured by by loud chirp of a bird. He looked towards his right and saw the sun rising. After five entire days finally he could feel sun rays on him. He went towards the rising sun and stood there watching it rise.

He closed his eyes and silently thought ' I miss you mom dad. I miss you brother and sis!'

He stood there watching the sun rise, unaware of two pairs of eyes watching him...

And the shadow trying to rise behind him...
