The Story of Nicky

Good Morning Friends.

A few days back I was conversing with one of my old friends who asked me why handicapped, challenged, incapacitated, disabled & mentally retarded people don't get some dignity, employment, and admirable position in our society. The question still answered

I recalled an article which I read once about the man Mr. Nicky.

In the year 1979, the manager managing a Wendy's in Port Richey Florida was

searching for someone to work three hours a day only at lunchtime.

He went thru all his applications and most of the candidates were all looking for full time or at least 20 hours per week employment.

He found one candidate, however, buried at the bottom of a four-inch stack of biodatas who was only looking for lunch part-time employment.

The candidate's name was Mr. Nicky.

The manager thought if he would give him an interview call and see if Nicky could come over for a personalized interview. When the manager called, he wasn't in but his mom answered said she would make sure he would be there.

At the designated interview time, Mr. Nicky walked in.

In this interview, the manager found out that Mr. Nicky suffered from Downs Syndrome.

His physical appearance was a giveaway and his speech only strengthened the obvious.

Mr. Nicky was inexperienced and secluded. The Manager had never interacted with someone on a professional level to legislate with a developmentally disabled person.

The manager had no clue what to do, still he went ahead and interviewed him.

He was an amazing young man. Great outlook. Task focused. Enthusiastic to be alive. For only reasons God knew at that time, the manager hired him. 3 hours a day, 3 days a week to run a sandwich grill.

The manager consent the staff know what to expect from Mr. Nicky.

Predictably the staff officials made sure & wrote a letter to the manager stating no one wants to work with a mentally retard person."The manager was shocked & find the words of staff offensive.

The manager had a staff meeting, cleared the air, and prepared for Mr. Nicky's arrival.

Mr. Nicky dropped in for work right on time.

Me Nicky was so eager to be working. He was punctual at the time clock precisely working with enthusiasm.

He clocked in and started his training.

Couldn't do multi-tasking. Now for the intriguing part.

Back in that day, there were no computer screens to work from. Every order was called by the cashier.

It required a great deal of concentration on the part of all backend staff to get the customers to order right.

While Nicky was on training during his first shift, the sandwich maker next to him asked the Gillman/trainer what was on the next sandwich.

Nicky replied, "single, no pickle no onion."

A few minutes later it happened again.

It was then that the office staff discovered Mr. Nicky had a hidden and valuable ability skill. He memorized everything he heard! It's termed as photographic hearing! This was an extraordinary skill set God had bestowed on him.

It took 3 days and now all office officials requested to work with Mr. Nicky.

Mr. Nicky's extraordinary talent was well accepted by the entire staff.

After his shift, Mr. Nicky would join the rest of his staff family, drinking Coke like it was water! It was then that they discovered another Rainman-Esque characteristic.

Mr. Nicky was a walking/talking perpetual calendar!.

With an eternal calendar as a reference, the staff officials would sit with him for hours asking him what day of the week was December 22, 1847. He never missed. This incredible quality mesmerized the complete staff.

Mr. Nicky's mom would come in at 2 to pick him up.

His mom once said to the manager

"Let him stay here as long as he wants.

He has never been accepted anywhere as he has been here."

The manager excused himself and parch his eyes, humbled and broken-hearted at the lesson he had learned a life lesson.

Nicky had a profound influence on this store.

His presence changed a lot of people.

Today the manager believed with every cord of his body that Nicky's hiring was no accident. God's Timing is always at the right time and God's will is always perfect.

I hope we all understand, we are all like Nicky. We all have our shortcomings. We should value & support each other's strong points & ensure other person's weak points are formulated to their dominant points. This will bring along values to another person. Pl, join me in the initiative of supporting aiding and mentoring the special children of God and embracing gm, and boosting them wherever we can. Pl, forward this message so we open doors platform for these God-blessed people.
