The Inexplicable Float- EPISODE 2

(Events after the First Episode) 

The day Sarah left a big impression on my head like a concoction spell. The news that had spread like wildfire now subsided and flew into the oblivion shadows. No one barely knew who she was. 

But I never forgot her. Never. How could I? She flew away right past me! 

"Ms. Katie! Ms. Katie!" A voice echoed in my head. 

I just turned a deaf ear to it. 

"MS. KATIE!" The voice shouted again. It had a tone of anger. 

But it had the power to snap me out of my thoughts. 

"GAH!" I said, finally entering my regular realm. 

I figured out, that the voice belonged to Mr. Bubble, our Science teacher. 

'Would you mind focussing?" Mr. Bubble said, with an unwavering angry frown on his face. 

"Y-Yes," I stuttered, looking at the board with numbers and formulae, nothing compared to my 'clean' notebook. 

Mr. Bubble cleared his throat and pursued teaching "Where was I? Ah yes! So when distance is divided by time...." 

I was obsessed with Sarah's disappearance. 

"So, trying to fetch grades with a mind like this?" Another voice, whom I was very familiar with, asked. 

I turned to the owner of the voice. Violet Summers. The biggest bully in my life. She had an unwavering smuggish grin etched on her face. 

She had a peach complexion, with golden blonde curly hair. She wore pink specs and had blue eyes. She wore a pink crop top with gold glitter letter stickers which said "I'm Queen", clearly when she's not, and blue jeans. 

"Well, at least I try, unlike you," I shot back, with that very grin. 

Her grin turned to a frown of rage, but she replaced it with a grin.

"I'm sorry, what? I mean, you are too focused on your dreamy realm that you even forget to turn back to reality," Violet chuckled. 

She was right. I was too focused on the dreamy realm. 

"Class dismissed. Finish the 20 sums as homework," Mr Bubble said, quite sternly. 

I packed my book inside my bag and waited for the next period.

The last bell rang through the school. The students grabbed their bags and dashed their way outside, crushing each other through the small door. 

I made my way past the throng of students carefully. 

As I successfully reached the main hallway, I panted roughly. It was the biggest obstacle course that could easily make its way to the Olympics. I sighed, drinking the last drops of water I had in my bottle. 

"See you at the Evening Girls Party, Katie!" Violet chided at me, nudging me so hard that I had to drop my water bottle "Oh wait, you won't be coming because you have to improve that Physics grade of yours! Hah! Good luck looser," She grinned mischievously and faded past me. 

"Violet, am I right?" a voice backed me up from behind. 

"Karen! Oh, it is so good to see you. How've you been?" I said, hugging my best friend. 

"Nah. Things have not been the same since our class split." She shrugged, munching on a sandwich. Yup, that's Karen. You can never separate her from her sandwiches. 

"Anyway, you've got to try this chicken-cheese sandwich. It is just like ham but with chicken!! Try it!" She chirps, her eyes filled with a glow. 

"No, Kar. I am not hungry, thanks," I said, rolling my eyes at her. 

"You will show up for the evening party though, right?" Karen asks, walking along with me. 

"I don't know..you heard Violet. I have to improve my Physics Grade. That's how I can get into Cornell." I hang my head down low. 

"Oh, then I will come over to your house! It could be a study night!" She chirps again. 

"Why do you do that?" I ask in the most polite way I can. 

"Do what?" 

"That chirp? I mean, it's not horrible in any way, I'm asking because it's cute!" I try to candy-coat it as much as possible. 

"That's been there for a long time. It shows how happy I am," She smiles. 

I smile back. Then suddenly that thought returns. 

"You know, you have been quite off mood lately, ever since that Sarah incident. Relax, Katie! It's all fine! Everyone forgot about her too! It has been years!" That's why, you have a best friend like Karen to read your mind and understand your feelings even when you don't say them. 

"Yeah. I should shake it off, but it keeps coming back. It is like, she's trying to call me, tell me something." I say, my eyebrows working out 43 muscles into a serious frown. 

"Don't make those muscles stress much on a single frown, Katie." She calms me down. 

"Yep yeah, you're right. Let's go." I say, finally picking up my bag and leaving the school block. 

... 

It is evening now. Girls are at the party Violet hosted while I'm studying for my Physics semi-finals tomorrow. In a way, I take Violet's advice to defeat her. I hope in the least. 

"Oh, Katie...." A silent voice whispers gently "Will you come with me? I miss you...I want to be with you on my planet! My friend!" 

I recognize that voice. Sarah. She's all alone. So she is calling me. 

"Sorry, Sarah, I can't," I say sternly, opening my Modular Physics. 

"Please? It will be fun...I promise....you will be my best friend! Leave Karen, follow me...." She lures me. 

Suddenly, my eyes turn solid blue. I can feel my eyeballs disappear. I am floating from my chair. I can see Sarah's figment stretching her arms to hug me. 

"I want you and you only as my best friend, Katie," I can see her clear face, smiling brightly at me. 

I can see us entering a green portal with stars and dust surrounding it. I am unaware of where we are headed. But it feels nice to be free, to feel close to the ones who love you. 

I finally feel her soft fingers touching me. It feels nice. 

"That's it, Katie, one more step, and you will be with me..." She smiles adoringly. 

When I was about to land my feet into the portal, the door smashed open. 

"Katie!" Karen slams through "GET DOWN!" 

The blue colour in my eyes fades away. I land down, hitting hard on the wooden chair. The portal closes open, and I see Sarah making a disappointed look at me "I will come again, don't worry," She smiles assuringly, which now scares me. 

"What was that?!!" Karen hugs me tight "Was she.." 

"Yes. It was Sarah. She was trying to take me to her world. I don't know why." I say, staring at the wall with the scars from the portal. 

"At least, you are ok. Glad I got you in time!" She pats herself at the back, and I roll my eyes.
