The Goddess

The Goddess

A woman dressed in red kanjivaram, loaded with gold from head to toe. Her hands shining brightly with perfectly manicured nails and an impeccable Mehendi (henna) design, walks in like a goddess.

She is welcomed with men smiling gently while women scrutinizing with a twinkle. The rhythmic sound of her ‘Payal’ making her way towards Hawan (holy fire), offering flowers, followed by the most beautiful stretch in the God’s feet with her hands folded all the time. Her closed eyes and serene smile giving a beat to everyone’s heart. The whole orison is filled with her chant of ‘Om’... a sight full of devotion and enlightenment.

She opens her eyes, people looking at her in awe, smitten by her charisma. She is then escorted towards the ‘prasadam’ hall where a succulent plate is waiting for her. She rested on her throne begins with a morsel after folding her hand, praying to the almighty. Others sitting in their respective places and savoring the delights.

With every setting sunlight, the throne is losing its brightness, exhibiting the torn and old rear. The angelic expression is turning into a more relatable appearance, the henna laden hand is filled with the spicy oily sauce which will now get washed away just like the alluring charm.

The biting of lips and heavy breath which were hidden under the benign smiles of the gentlemen unearthing in the twilight. Once the twinkling eyes are now laughing at her disdain. The dames covering their shoulders with their ‘pallu’ while exchanging a sinister chuckle.

The lady who was once considered a goddess is now following a crisp white shirt laden with golden fingers, time and again feeding his mustache man. Entering into his chamber, closing the door behind her, the creaking sound of the door is in sync with her stare at the hollow and fictitious benevolence.
