The Drive

The Drive

Wandering around in my car without anywhere to go, I looked at my phone. The clock read 2:30 AM. My thumb hovered around the green button for what seemed like the hundredth time. Diving into the dilemma, I finally called her. Panicking at the indecisiveness of what to say, I cut it before it could connect, convincing myself that she'd be long asleep by now.

Frustrated at myself, I turned on the ignition again, finally wanting to call it a night. Just then, the phone rang, tearing through the silence of the night sky; it was her. Still not sure what I was gonna say, I picked up. "Hey. I've been thinking about you, I'm glad you called. Why'd you cut it though?" She said as I saw the lights in her bedroom switch on. I smiled at the window and replied, "It was a mistake. I know it's late, but would you fancy a drive right now?" After what seemed like an eternal pause, her voice rippled through the phone, "Finally! I'd lost hope after the first hour. I'll be down in a minute."
