The Destined Bullets
The Destined Bullets
It was early August and for a change Ma my sister and I went to our maternal grandparent's house. The other reason which contributed to the effect that my uncle who is an Army officer had came there for some time. My uncle and I have a great bonding, even shared the same point of view on various topics. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I started having online classes. The duration of our online classes was very hectic because we used to have 6 periods a day on 6 days of the week. I used to get frustrated at the weekends due to all this because before online classes I wasn't allowed to touch a device for more than an hour and here I need to sit for 4-5 hours a day.
My weeks were going on as usual the first 5 days were normal and on the sixth day, I used to get frustrated. Today was that getting frustrated day due to headaches and all. But suddenly my Uncle came and sat by me for some time and then said,"you look quite stressed and pressured." Although he said politely but I was frustrated and anger git spitted out of my mouth,"you are saying this cause you don't know how it feels like to be stressed and under pressure." But surprisingly instead of scolding me he said politely ," Hey bud !would you mind listening to one of my stories when I was posted in kargil". To this I sat alerted and answered ,"ya sure it's been a long time since I had he
ard any stories." He sat and then said,"ok it's goes like this. It was nearly 20 years or so back that me and my teammates were told to go and capture point 4875 in Kargil. We were total 30 in number and we went to capture that point at nearly 3 am we marched towards our enemy and our enemy was continuously firing bullets at us from above. I remembered that we had all lost our senses and we regained our senses when we were hoisting the The Indian Tricolor.
But at that time we weren't 30 left only 4 of us survived. On the same day one of our fellow soldier was lying injured on snow an we were all hiding behind bunkers as the opponent was continuously firing from above. It was my duty to go and help that injured soldier. I was just going to leave to save that soldier but then suddenly my Captain stopped me and said ,"I vowed that after the safety of my own countrymen the safety of my fellow soldiers is my next priority."by saying this he left to assist the injured soldier and he himself became marte while saving that injured soldier.E ven now I feel like those bullets were destined for me. And now bud as I tell you this I hope you can understand that I know how to manage stress and pressure simultaneously. " As soon as he finished it I stood up and hugged him tightly and asked him my last question,"what was the name of your Captain?" To this, he proudly said "Captain Vikram Batra"
