The Coating

    The bond between siblings is so special and valuable. As the saying goes blood is thicker than water any feeling of happiness or sorrow is immediately felt by the siblings whether they are together or far away. This is the uniqueness of the relationship.                       .    

 It is not that we remember brothers only during Raksha bandhan but, that day is specially allocated to make them feel special. Why not, they are entitled to feel so. The real purpose of this festival is to make brothers more considerate towards their sisters and in reciprocation the sisters affection for their brothers.                      This story is based on real incidents that were narrated to me by my good friend who is my class fellow.          . . . .                     

  Dipu was so happy and excited. It was Raksha Bandhan and she being the only sister among a group of few boys among whom were her own brothers and her cousin brothers too. They always made her very special always and specially on this particular day or for that matter during Raksha Bandhan. She would be pampered with lots of gifts and goodies. As her friends would feel jealous about this it was true and real. Dipu was the lucky one . Now she was in her teens and was attending her first year of college, she felt she was grown up and had to treat her brothers with home made food specially cooked for them by herself. Even though her mother tried suggesting that they cook together for the day Dipu was adamant that she would take care of the preparations. Her mother was not so confident as she knew Dipu had got a lot to learn about cooking. But, had to agree as it was a special day for her obviously.

All planned Dipu ordered few items online and thoroughly watched the preparations of the specific dish on you tube and with super confidence started her mission (he he) of preparing . So far she was okay preparing Maggie once in a way but now it was a bit challenging to prepare a dessert for so many of her cousin brothers and her parents and siblings. She started preparing the said dessert. The ingredients were in front of her on the counter. As per the recipe she grinded oreo biscuits and kept them aside. Then she melted cocoa and finally the butter. She set everything in a bowl and mixed them gently. So far everything fine. Then she placed the container in the Pre-heated microwave oven and switched on the knob. But, she forgot to set the timer. She was waiting and was a bit anxious as to how the dish would turn out. While she was lost in her thought the dish gave out an aroma that seemed like it was burnt. She immediately switched off the oven and was almost in tears expecting that the preparation was a failed one. She rushed out of the kitchen and laid on her bed crying and covering her face with shame. She was feeling bad for herself and for her brothers too.                    

  On hearing what had happened to the dish that Dipu had made her brothers tried to console her but we're not successful. So, they quietly went into the kitchen and transferred the burnt dish that was not bad in taste l. They grinded few more biscuits, made balls out of that by adding butter and melted chocolate and put it in the freezer for sometime until it was little bit solid in texture. They placed the balls made out of this mixture and decorated the plate with gems and jam. In fact they named the dish as delicious Dipu and rejoiced at the preparation by feeding the dessert to a regretting Dipu. This was the real Raksha Bandhan gift they gave to their sister apart from the materialistic pieces of finery they bought for her sake. Dipu was so thankful that she was so rich not money wise but by all the affection she got on this special occasion that is dedicated for the love between siblings which does not start with tying a thread on the wrist but which is eternal and precious.
