Still life - a short (horror) story?
You are walking in a vast, shadowy room filled with mannequins. The mannequins are so life-like, that the only reason you believe they are mannequins is because they do not move at all. As you walk past rows and rows of these mannequins, listening to the soft patter of your feet, a mannequin standing few rows ahead blinks at you. A gasp escapes your mouth, and while you stand frozen to the spot, looking at the mannequin in the distance, trying to discern whether it really blinked at you or not, you hear faint scraping and scratching as a few mannequins turn towards you... the movement spreads through the rows like a ripple... a thousand eyes are now looking for you... you can feel the murderous intent behind those opaque eyes... the only way for you to avoid the scrutiny is to keep still. The plan seems to work, as the mannequins slowly turn back to their positions, but the feeling that you are being watched persists... you know that any further movement will put you in danger again. So now you are left standing in a row of mannequins, waiting for an unsuspecting human (like you) to come along, so that you could somehow catch their attention (by blinking, perhaps) and be saved...
