Story By: Vimla Jain Introduction: > “Beyond Appearances – A Victory of Humanity” Sometimes, what seems flashy or odd from the outside hides a heart full of empathy and love. This is the story of a sister-in-law who fought to restore her sister-in-law’s confidence, and a boy judged unfairly by his appearance who proved to be the kindest soul of all. A story about second chances, strength, and love that sees beyond imperfections. ✦ Story: “Smita’s Gift – A New Beginning” Today, she was full of joy. Smita had never imagined such happiness would come her way. Her sister-in-law was pregnant, and as she soaked in the news, her mind wandered into memories of the past. Years ago, she had met a boy for the first time — Raghav. He wore a heavy bracelet, a thick chain, and loud clothes. Smita instantly judged him: "He looks like a tapori… maybe even a goon." He was distantly related to her aunt. She had met him once but avoided conversation — his appearance had formed a solid first impression. Time passed, and Smita got married. She was happy at her in-laws’ house. Her younger brother-in-law was talkative, but the sister-in-law was silent, hesitant. Whenever she tried to speak, someone would interrupt or shush her. Smita found out that her sister-in-law stammered and lacked confidence. She could not speak fluently, and the family often ignored her presence. Smita, who came from a loving, inclusive family, was deeply disturbed. She decided: “She’s my sister now. I will build her up. She deserves confidence, speech therapy, and a chance to thrive.” And that’s what she did. Within a couple of years, the girl transformed into a confident woman. She was married into a wealthy family, but two years later, she was divorced. The reasons? She couldn’t conceive. She stammered. She had suffered domestic abuse. The family was shocked. They blamed Smita: "You insisted on building her life – now she’s a burden!" Smita was hurt, but she didn’t give up. She stood by her sister-in-law again, took her along everywhere, gave her comfort. One day, while shopping, they met Raghav — the same boy she had once misjudged. “Hello, Didi! My aunt is home, please come,” he said with a smile. They visited his house. Raghav’s aunt welcomed them and soon, the conversation turned to the sister-in-law’s life. The aunt said, “She deserves a second marriage.” Smita replied, “Only if there’s a truly good boy.” Raghav suddenly said, “I’ll marry her.” Smita was stunned. “You know she’s divorced, right?” Raghav smiled, “Yes, but she did nothing wrong. I’ll give her the life she deserves.” The aunt explained – “Raghav works a government job. His parents are kind and understanding.” Smita and the family met Raghav’s parents. Everything aligned. The wedding happened soon after. Now, two years later — her sister-in-law was pregnant. The house was filled with joy. She had found love, respect, and strength again — all thanks to a boy once misjudged by his looks. Smita thought to herself – “We should never judge someone by appearance. If I had looked at Raghav’s heart instead of his bracelet and chain, I would’ve seen the truth sooner. No regrets now — just happiness and pride that we chose right.”
