Once upon a time, there lived a couple in a village called Shahpur.

The husband, Shyam, was a very hardworking man and spent his whole day working in the fields. His wife Rukmini was also very hardworking. But Shyam had a fault. He just believed everyone and did as they said.

One day Rukmini told her husband to buy vegetables from the market for the dinner as she had not completed her day’s work. Shyam agreed and went to the market. He bought the vegetables. But the vegetable vendor knew how foolish Shyam was. So he told the price of the vegetables thrice their actual value. As Shyam didn’t know this, he paid the amount and returned home. Rukmini asked the price of the vegetables. She was shocked that her husband had given the money to the vendor without thinking. Rukmini had experienced this many times. So she decided to teach him a lesson.

After a few days, Rukmini told Shyam that she had to go to Mirzapur at her mother’s house due to some urgent work. She said,” You will have to stay back as Amma has asked me to come alone.”

Shyam readily agreed. Not knowing how to cook, he thought, “ I will eat my meals at my friend’s house. Rest everything I can manage on my own. ”As her husband had allowed her, she left the house to go to Mirzapur.

That night he went to his friend’s house to have his dinner. But his friend along with his family was out of the station. So Shyam had no choice but to come back home without eating anything. The same night, there was a traveller who stopped at Shyam’s house for the night. Shyam, who didn’t think even for a minute, agreed to stay with the traveller for a night and told the traveller to sleep in the veranda. The traveller was actually Rukmini’s brother, Surinder whom Shyam didn’t know. Surinder had some work in Shahpur and had to stay overnight. So he decided to stay at Rukmini’s place. Rukmini had a plan to teach Shyam a lesson and so decided to take help of her brother.

When Shyam went to sleep, Surinder called his friend, Bob, and started talking in a loud voice. He said,” Today will be my 100th murder. I will kill this man and his wife. Before killing them I will take their thumb impressions on the legal papers which say that after their death, this house will be mine. Then this will be 100th house. And I will be the richest man.” Shyam overheard this and was frightened. He couldn’t move from his place because of fright. Surinder entered the room where Shyam was sleeping. He had a knife in his hand. Shyam shouted for help. But Surinder started coming closer to him and Shyam was too frightened that he couldn’t speak anything.

Rukmini, who was hiding in the drawing-room, was watching all this. She said,” Enough Surinder. I think my husband has learnt a lesson. I hope he will never take any decisions without thinking.”Shaym was confused. How was Rukmini here and how does she know the murderer?

Rukmini understood his confusion and said,” My dear husband, this is my brother Surinder. I wanted you to understand that you always take decisions without thinking. So as it is Surinder was coming to Shahpur , and you didn’t know him, I decided to take his help. I didn’t go to Mirzapur but I was just roaming around today. I hope that from today onwards, you will think twice before taking any decision. Now get up and come to the kitchen. I will prepare dinner for you.”

Shyam was relieved and quickly went to the kitchen along with Surinder and Bob. He promised his wife that he would always think before taking any decisions.

MORAL: Always think twice before taking any decision or they may prove to be fatal.
