Valmiki, also known as Lal Beg or Bala Shah, is revered as Adi Kavi, the first poet, as he wrote the Ramayana, the first epic poem.

One day, Narada muni said to Valmiki that the great Hanuman too had also written the adventures of Rama, engraving the story with his nails on rocks. Valmiki wanted to see it and thus traveled to the Himalayas where Hanumanji was residing. When Hanuman read out his narration, Valmiki was happy to hear such a masterpiece and sad as it was better than his own. It was truly a marvelous composition.

Hanumanji saw the unhappiness of Valmiki and said that he has written only for his love for Lord Rama and does not intend to earn any fame from it. Saying so he smashed the engraved rocks destroying his creation forever. Such was Hanuman's selflessness and love for Lord Rama.

Hanuman's name illustrates his selfless and inspiring character, being made up of 'Hanan' meaning annihilation and 'man' meaning mind, thus indicating, one who has conquered his ego and is egoless.

Today when a brother does not talk with his own brother for several years due to ego problems, relations become sour due to some misunderstandings and no one talks first due to ego, this story is definitely an eye-opener.

Lord Hanuman is the most intricate and beloved devotee of Lord Rama and is the embodiment of truth and simplicity. His devotion to Lord Rama is great.

Jai Shri Ram!

Jai Hanuman!
