It was the onset of winter which was wholeheartedly welcomed by the drizzling crystal droplets of water from heaven. Concentrating on studies in close proximity to this weather seemed to be the last possible thing that my mind was volunteering for. Packing my bag and getting up from my comfortable place, I bid goodbye to my friend and cursed the rain for abruptly ending my group study. Heading towards my abode, my mind was subconsciously figuring out how to complete the course for the examination tomorrow in such a short span. It was a mere twenty-minute walk from my present location but the water logging on the streets made it a compulsion to drag my feet and waddle along the muddy water. Briskly walking on the streets, a part of me felt hypnotized by the aroma of the hot stuffed samosas and the heavenly smell of the freshly watered soil whereas my mind ordered me to return as the night was falling and eerie sounds from the deciduous trees were ubiquitous. As I reached home, a flabbergasting sight awaited me. The streetlights of my locality were fluttering and amidst this my three-storeyed bungalow, appearing as tall as a banyan tree, seemed to be a replica of the haunted house. I paced towards the entrance, my heart throbbing against my chest, and with chilled shivering hand inserted the key into the doorknob. As I was about to open the door, I had a strange feeling as if someone called my name. I looked back instantly and to my relief, it was quiet and somber. The only thing I yearned for then was to thrust the door open and rush inside without a momentary blink. As I turned again and stretched my hands towards the knob, my reflex made my neck rotate and a chill ran down my spine. I stood there motionless, sweat trickling down my forehead as if someone had burst my sweat pores open. It was a mortiferous scene, and I felt as if my blood vessels were drying up.
