Proud To Be An Indian

Proud To Be An Indian

I rolled over and ducked just in time to avoid a fusillade of bullets that went whizzing past my head.

‘I, Sushant am a proud soldier of the Indian army…..’ were the thoughts that occupied my mind as I rolled forward and assaulted another brave enemy soldier. These thoughts got subdued as I focused on shooting a team of five soldiers.

“OPEN FIRE!” I announced and a couple of my fellow soldiers raced ahead and began raining bullets over the enemy troops. Another soldier got a head shot from me.

“Gotcha!” Said Ranjeet, one of my best friends and an accredited soldier of India.

“Soldiers, this is captain, the enemy troops are falling back….. Retreat."

“Soldiers report at the bunker….I repeat soldiers report at the Bunker (over and out)”

The Bunkers were flooded with people. Half of them were brutally wounded and the other half was busy tending them. In a corner I noticed squirming enemy soldiers who had been tied via iron leashes to a thick metal pole. As every Indian sergeant settled down, the captain entered. Addressing the crowd of about sixty five soldiers, he said, “My dear Brave Soldiers of India, I am obliged to inform you that this sabotage against the HM terrorist group of Pakistan has promptly ceased and there are very less chances of any further arduous operations to be carried out by them. We all are proud to be Indian Soldiers as we all have accomplished a lot and served our nation faithfully. She in Return will give us peace. Most of the people in our country get food only because of the strenuous work of the farmers. Farmers can work fearlessly in their fields, mothers can fearlessly send their children lone on the streets, every man can fearlessly go to work because every Indian knows that there is an unbreakable wall - the Indian army which stands against all odds and gives its best to prevent the enemy forces from crossing the borders and entering our country. Every Indian has faith in the Indian soldiers and so let’s not break the trust of India By taking this oath-

"I hereby solemnly swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India, as by law established and that I will, as in duty bound honestly and faithfully, serve in the regular Army of the Union of India and go wherever ordered, by land, sea or air, and that I will observe and obey all the commands of the President of the Union of India and the commands of any officer set above me, even to the peril of my life."

That Night I climbed upon my bunk bed and tugged at Ranjeet who slept in the lower bunk bed and whispered him a good night to find myself celebrating my birthday with all my friends and relatives around me.

Oh come on, it is only an optimistic dream,” I told myself and closed my eyes hoping to be ebullient the next day.
