PROTEST: A VOICE THAT GOES UNHEARD.

PROTEST: A VOICE THAT GOES UNHEARD.

The title mentions a single voice, but it is really a million voices coming together to make the change. The singular form is for the person who starts and inspires others along the way.
As usual, a system fails, some people take the brunt of it, the world empathizes, and everything goes back to normal. The system has not failed for the first time, nor for the last; why bother? Nothing is going to be changed. Life goes on.
But then a man from a corner of the world doesn't let go and doesn't move on. He comes forward and raises the question against the system and demands accountability. At first, the world sees him as a troublemaker who is creating a ruckus for something that has been happening for years. But then this one man tries to awaken the dead spirit of the people who have stopped questioning and given in to the failure of the system. He makes people think: if we don't bother then, who? If we don't raise our voice, then who? If we don't demand change, then who?  If we don't fight for those who were affected by the system failure, then who? He decided it was time to take it personally.

This generation heard his voice and agreed to join hands with him for a better future. The youth is ready to risk it all and denormalise the way of life that shouldn't have normalised in the first place. Gen Z, who were said to be lazy, suddenly were seen on the streets protesting peacefully for better system management. They realised that change does not happen by sitting silently in our comfortable homes and ignoring the issue. It's time for a change, it's time to speak, and it's time to tell the world: IT MATTERS!!
The world saw and noticed how the voice of one man brought millions together irrespective of their caste, gender, and religion. The people realised that patriotism does not only mean posting songs and images on social media, but to raise the voice when required. Protest is a peaceful and powerful tool in a democratic nation, which should be used carefully and respectfully. The ongoing protests around the world are a testament that Gen-Z is fearless and does not hesitate to question authority. Their voices cannot be silenced.

Hands Across The World We Are The Masses. We Protest Injustice, And We Weather The Spray, The Gas, The Beating Of The Cops.We Will Survive No Doubt. The poem is written By Shirani Rajapakse.
