Once the procession of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, was going through his kingdom. The people had gathered on both sides of the road to take a look at their Maharaja, when all of a sudden, an old lady came in front of the horse, from the crowd.

She started rubbing the pan with the foot of Maharaja. All were taken in for a surprise. The attendants and the accompanying soldiers quickly got hold of her and were about to send her away when Maharaja Ranjit Singh stopped them. He asked the old lady about the reason of doing so.

She said that people call him as 'Paras'--the Philosopher's stone. So she thought of converting her iron utensils into gold by rubbing them with his feet.

The Maharaja laughed and admired the simplicity of the woman. He ordered his staff to give her lots of money and utensils so that she could live a happy life thereafter.

The Maharaja thus fulfilled the meaning of his name "Paras".
