New Year Resolution

As soon as she heard people wishing each other ‘Happy new year’ from the top of their lungs, she left the party. She took a bottle of beer and went to the terrace to end her sufferings.

While opening the cork of the bottle she heard a familiar voice. It was him, she said aloud and the whiff of his perfume was now filling the need of her nostrills. She saw him bending over his knees and proposing to the other girl in the same way he’d proposed her, on this very day, last year, which was perhaps the reason why she was drinking on their first anniversary.

A tear trickled down her cheeks and  she promised not to drink again. At least not for someone, who was never meant to be her forever in the first place
