Mystery Boxes

The doorbell rang and I opened the door. No one was there but I noticed a strange-looking box on the step. I lifted the lid.....

and found an envelope with a letter stating that my husband Avinash had not been to his office since last Monday after he and his secretary Manjari were caught red-handed by their boss and Manjari was fired from her job.

 I was shocked and surprised. I kept the letter in my almirah and left the box on the dining table. Avinash came back at his usual time and asked me about the box. I told him that I had purchased it to keep small accessories.

The next day at the same time, it was repeated. This time the letter said that Avinash was in constant touch with Manjari. I kept both box and letter at the same places as yesterday. When Avinash inquired, I told him as I purchased it online and only one could be purchased at a time, the third one will be delivered tomorrow. "You and your online shopping"He made fun of it. I was worried if the same is not repeated tomorrow. 

Next morning Avinash asked me why I looked a bit disturbed and if everything was OK. I denied and he left for office. The third box arrived exactly at the same time. The sender had written the address of a famous hotel and advised that I could go and find them together this afternoon. 

I was in a dilemma now. Avinash was my childhood friend and ours was a love cum arranged marriage of three years. It was hard to believe any such thing.

I thought that it was not wise to jump to conclusions in a haste. That day, watching third box on table, He smiled and said "So the set is complete now" and I smiled back.

The next day was our third marriage anniversary. Avinash woke me up with a cup of coffee and a Red rose "Good morning and Happy anniversary sweetheart". 

I wished him back. While leaving for office, he told me to be ready for dining outside.

 I was waiting for 11 AM and almost ran when the doorbell rang. There was a similar box but bigger in size this time. I opened it and this time no letter but a beautiful ring was there. Suddenly Avinash along with his office team including Manjari came out of the lift door and all of them shouted "Happy anniversary".

Tears rolled down my eyes. "So it was you," I asked Avinash and Manjari said "I shall answer this. All of us had a bet with Avinash sir to check your trust on him. Avinash sir and I were there in that hotel yesterday to make arrangements for your anniversary celebrations." 

That night's party was a super success and while dancing I asked Avinash "Why was today's box larger in size?" He kissed me on my forehead and replied "Because of your larger that usual trust Divya."
